Custom marketing dashboard tool: marketing dashboard development, without the build

Most people who search for a custom marketing dashboard are not asking for custom software. They are asking for a dashboard that finally shows their channels, on their definitions, with the one number their boss keeps asking for, because the off-the-shelf tool they tried showed nine widgets and answered none of it.

What's working
Where money leaks

Sample data, your real stack connects in minutes, read-only

That distinction matters, because the two ways to get there cost wildly different amounts. A genuine marketing dashboard development project means a warehouse, an ETL or connector subscription, a BI layer, and an engineer or agency to keep the joins correct while five ad platforms change their APIs underneath you. The alternative is a tool that already did the hard part, the reconciliation between what platforms claim and what your store actually banked, and lets you arrange the rest.

MixedMetrics is the second kind. Connectors are read-only and take minutes, the blended math is finished before you arrive, and you pick which channels, metrics, and date ranges sit on the board. This page is honest about where that stops being enough and a real build is the right call.

The short answer

A custom marketing dashboard is a reporting view built around your own channels, metrics, and definitions instead of a vendor's fixed template. You can build one, which means a warehouse, a connector layer, a BI tool, and somebody who maintains all three, or you can configure one. Building carries a real recurring cost: every time an ad platform changes its API the pipeline needs rework, as it did when Meta removed two attribution windows from the Ads Insights API on 12 January 2026. MixedMetrics is the configured version. Read-only connectors to Google Ads, Meta Ads, TikTok Ads, GA4, Search Console, Shopify, Stripe, and Klaviyo feed blended ROAS, blended CAC, MER, and LTV that are computed for you, from $79 a month.

Why it works

What you get with custom marketing dashboard

01

Configured, not coded

Choose the channels, metrics, and comparisons that matter to you. No warehouse, no SQL, no data engineer on retainer.

02

The hard part is already done

Spend from five platforms reconciled against Shopify and Stripe revenue, so blended ROAS, CAC, and MER are correct on day one.

03

It does not rot

When a platform changes its API we fix the connector. A custom build makes that your problem, every time.

What it covers

Connect, blend, and see what is driving revenue

MixedMetrics turns scattered platform numbers into one blended read-out of ROAS, CAC, MER, and revenue, with AI that flags where spend is leaking.

  • Get a dashboard shaped around your channels without commissioning a build
  • Skip the warehouse, ETL subscription, and BI licence a custom stack needs
  • Keep blended ROAS, blended CAC, MER, and LTV correct as platform APIs change
  • Stand up a separate board per brand or client without rebuilding the model
  • Work out honestly whether your case actually justifies a custom build

Why MixedMetrics

Blended truth, AI insights, no BI tool required

Not eight conflicting platform dashboards, not a data engineer, not a spreadsheet that rots by Friday. One blended view you can act on.

One blended read-out

Blended ROAS, CAC, MER, LTV, and revenue by channel in a single live view, instead of eight platforms claiming the same conversion.

AI that finds the leak

The insight layer reads the blended data and tells you what changed and where spend is leaking, before the month closes.

Connect, do not migrate

Read-only connectors to the tools you already run. No re-platforming, no pixel surgery, first dashboard the same day.

Build or buy: what a custom marketing dashboard really involves

What is a custom marketing dashboard?

A custom marketing dashboard is a reporting view assembled around one team's specific channels, metrics, and definitions rather than a vendor's fixed template. In practice the term covers two very different things. The first is a genuinely bespoke stack: raw platform data landed in a warehouse, transformed into a model somebody wrote, and visualized in a BI tool. The second, and far more common, is an off-the-shelf dashboard that has been configured until it shows what you need.

Almost everyone searching for this wants the second one and prices the first one by mistake. Before you scope a build, write down the questions the dashboard has to answer. If the list is things like what did we spend across every channel last week, what did we actually earn, and what is our blended CAC now versus last quarter, that is a solved problem and a configured tool will do it. If the list includes joining marketing spend to support tickets, product usage events, or a proprietary internal system, no configured tool will reach it and a build is the honest answer.

How much does marketing dashboard development cost?

There is no credible single number, because build cost depends on channel count, data volume, and whose time you are spending. What you can price honestly is the recurring stack a custom build sits on, before anyone writes a line of code. Those figures are published, and we read each one off the vendor's own page in July 2026.

The line item people forget is maintenance, and it is the one that decides whether the project was worth it. A custom pipeline is not finished when it ships. Ad platforms deprecate fields, rename metrics, and retire attribution windows on their own schedule, and every one of those events is a ticket for whoever owns your pipeline. Budget for that as an ongoing commitment, not a one-off. Our breakdown of marketing reporting software pricing compares 16 tools on published prices if you want the buy side of the ledger in one table.

  • Connector or ETL subscription: Supermetrics from EUR 39 a month, Funnel.io from $300 a month on annual billing
  • BI licence: Power BI at $14.00 or $24.00 per user per month on annual billing, Looker Studio free with Pro at roughly $9 per user per month
  • Warehouse storage and query costs, which scale with how much raw platform data you retain
  • Build time, in developer or analyst days, for the data model and the visuals
  • Ongoing maintenance every time a platform changes a field, a metric, or an attribution window

Should you build a custom marketing dashboard or buy one?

Use a simple test. Buy if the questions you need answered are standard marketing and revenue questions, even if your channel mix is unusual. Build if the dashboard has to reach data that no marketing tool connects to, or if the logic that makes a number correct is genuinely specific to your business and nobody outside it would model it the same way.

The trap is building for a reason that sounds like the second case but is really the first. Wanting your own metric names, your own channel groupings, or a particular chart layout feels bespoke and is not: those are configuration, and configuring them takes an afternoon in a tool that already reconciles the underlying data. Wanting to attribute revenue through a multi-step offline sales process that only your CRM understands genuinely is bespoke, and no dashboard product will do it for you.

There is a middle path worth naming. Plenty of teams build the warehouse because finance and product need it anyway, then still buy a marketing dashboard, because rebuilding blended ROAS and CAC logic on top of their own warehouse is weeks of work that produces the same number. Owning your raw data and buying the marketing view are not in conflict.

How to build client marketing dashboards

The pattern that survives contact with a real client roster is one board per client, each with its own connectors and its own currency, plus a single roll-up for spend pacing across the book. What fails is a shared workbook with a tab per client. The moment one account restructures its campaigns, formulas drift silently and nobody notices until a client questions a figure in a meeting.

Agree the metric definitions with the client before the first report goes out, in writing. Most reporting arguments are not about the data being wrong, they are about the client and the agency counting a conversion differently. Decide once whether you are reporting platform-attributed conversions or revenue the client's store actually recorded, put that sentence on the dashboard itself, and the monthly call gets considerably shorter.

Be clear-eyed about the deliverable too. If what the client buys is a branded PDF with your logo on it, you want a reporting tool built for that, and MixedMetrics is not one: we do not offer a white-label client portal. If what they buy is a decision about where next month's budget goes, a blended board is the right instrument. Our agency reporting page is explicit about which side of that line we sit on, and how to build a marketing dashboard walks through the metric selection in detail.

Why do custom marketing dashboards break?

Because they depend on ad platform APIs that change without asking you. The clearest recent example: on 12 January 2026 Meta stopped returning the 7-day view and 28-day view attribution windows from the Ads Insights API, along with every combined window built on them. What remains is 1-day click, 7-day click, 28-day click, 1-day engaged view, and 1-day view. Meta also cut historical availability for unique-count field breakdowns and hourly breakdowns to 13 months, and frequency breakdowns to 6 months, while total values stayed at 37 months.

If your custom pipeline requested one of the removed windows, it did not fail loudly. It returned less conversion credit, and the dashboard kept drawing a chart. Anyone comparing this March to last March against a 28-day view window is now comparing two different measurements and calling it a trend. That class of silent breakage is the real running cost of a build, and it is invisible until someone makes a budget decision on it.

The same fragility explains why platform numbers never reconcile in the first place. Google Ads books a conversion against the date of the click while GA4 books it against the date of the event, so the same week differs in both even when the tracking is perfect. We worked through the arithmetic in why ad platform numbers do not match, and the answer that actually settles it is total revenue over total spend, which is what blended ROAS measures.

What can you customize in MixedMetrics, and what can you not?

You choose which of the connected channels appear, which metrics sit on the board and in what order, the comparison periods, the channel groupings, and which blended figures lead. You can run a separate board per brand, store, or client, each with its own connectors. Scheduled summaries go to email and Slack on whatever cadence you want.

What you cannot do is write arbitrary SQL against the raw data, connect a source we do not support, or bring in non-marketing data. Our connectors are GA4, Google Ads, Meta Ads, TikTok Ads, Search Console, Shopify, Stripe, and Klaviyo or HubSpot. Amazon Ads, Microsoft Ads, and LinkedIn Ads are not connected today. If your spend is concentrated in one of those three, we are the wrong tool this quarter and it is better you know now. For a fully open canvas, a BI tool is the right category and our Looker Studio comparison covers that trade honestly.

Good questions

Questions about custom marketing dashboard

A reporting view built around your own channels, metrics, and definitions rather than a vendor's fixed template. It can mean a bespoke stack of warehouse, connectors, and a BI tool, or an off-the-shelf dashboard configured until it answers your questions. Most teams asking for the first actually need the second.
There is no single credible figure, because it depends on channel count, data volume, and whose time you spend. The recurring stack underneath a build is priceable: a connector subscription from about EUR 39 a month, a BI licence from roughly $9 to $24 per user per month, plus warehouse costs and ongoing maintenance every time a platform changes its API.
Buy if your questions are standard marketing and revenue questions, even with an unusual channel mix. Build if the dashboard must reach data no marketing tool connects to, or if the logic behind a correct number is genuinely specific to your business. Wanting your own metric names or chart layout is configuration, not a reason to build.
Yes, within limits worth stating. You choose which connected channels appear, which metrics show and in what order, comparison periods, channel groupings, and which blended figures lead, with a separate board per brand or client. You cannot write arbitrary SQL, connect an unsupported source, or bring in non-marketing data.
Because ad platform APIs change underneath them. Meta removed the 7-day view and 28-day view attribution windows from the Ads Insights API on 12 January 2026, so pipelines requesting them returned less conversion credit without failing visibly. Maintaining a custom pipeline against five platforms is an ongoing commitment, not a one-off build.
