Best GA4 Reporting Tools for Ecommerce Teams

GA4 reporting covers three different jobs, and most tools only do one well. Looker Studio, Coupler.io, Supermetrics, Databox, Funnel.io, Triple Whale and MixedMetrics compared on verified list pricing, what each meters you on, and why GA4 and Shopify revenue never match.

There is no single best GA4 reporting tool, because "GA4 reporting" covers three different jobs and most tools only do one well. Visualizing GA4 on its own is free in Looker Studio. Piping GA4 into a warehouse or a spreadsheet is what Supermetrics and Coupler.io are built for. Putting GA4 next to ad spend and settled store revenue, so you can read blended ROAS and blended CAC, needs a tool that connects all three at once. Decide which job you have before you compare prices.

The reason this matters more for ecommerce than for other teams is that your revenue lives outside GA4. A B2B site can treat a form fill as the outcome and stop there. An ecommerce brand has orders in Shopify, payments in Stripe, refunds in both, and spend spread across Google, Meta and TikTok. GA4 sees the session and fires a purchase event. It does not see the refund three weeks later, and it does not know what the click cost.

The three jobs a GA4 reporting tool can do

Almost every disappointing tool evaluation comes from buying for one job and expecting another. Sorting the market this way makes the shortlist obvious.

  • Visualize GA4. Turn GA4 dimensions and metrics into charts someone will actually open. Looker Studio does this for free.
  • Move GA4 somewhere else. Extract GA4 into BigQuery, Snowflake or Google Sheets on a schedule so you can model it. This is the connector market.
  • Join GA4 to money. Combine GA4 traffic with ad spend from every network and revenue that actually settled, then compute the ratios leadership reads.

Only the third job produces blended ROAS, blended CAC, MER or LTV:CAC, and it is the only one GA4 structurally cannot do alone, because both the cost number and the settled revenue number live in systems GA4 does not own.

Prices below are US list prices read off each vendor's public pricing page. Vendors reprice, so check before you buy. Where a vendor does not publish a price, this table says so rather than guessing.

Tool Entry price Which job it does Best for
Looker Studio Free; Pro $9 per user per project per month Visualize Teams with someone who will own and maintain the report
Coupler.io Free, then $24 / $99 / $199 a month billed annually Move Getting GA4 into Sheets or a warehouse cheaply
Supermetrics Starter from EUR 39 a month annually Move Mature pipelines, if you can live with the source and user caps
Databox Free, then $64 a month annually, plus $5.60 per extra source Visualize Scorecard-style KPI tracking across many tools
Funnel.io Starter from EUR 280 a month annually Move Large data teams that need hundreds of connectors
Triple Whale Foundation $219 a month Join to money Shopify-first DTC brands wanting attribution features
MixedMetrics From $79 a month, flat Join to money Blended ROAS, CAC and MER without per-source metering

Looker Studio

Still the default, and for good reason: the GA4 connector is native, the self service tier costs nothing, and almost every marketer has seen one. The cost is your time. Blending spend and revenue means wiring up separate connectors, agreeing on a join key, and repairing the report whenever a schema or a UTM convention changes. Looker Studio Pro, billed as a project subscription at $9 per user per project per month, adds team content management, scheduling controls and Google Cloud support. It does not add blended metrics, and the per project unit is worth noticing if you run several client projects.

Coupler.io and Supermetrics

Both are extraction tools rather than dashboards, and the difference between them is how they meter. Coupler.io includes its full source catalog on every plan, including the free one, and charges on accounts and destinations. Supermetrics meters four things at once: sources, users, destinations and plan tier, and every paid tier includes only one core destination. If you plan to fan GA4 out to both a warehouse and a spreadsheet, price that carefully.

Triple Whale

The strongest fit if you are a Shopify-first DTC brand and want pixel-based attribution alongside your reporting. Foundation is $219 a month at the entry GMV bracket, and the pricing slider moves the same plans upward as your volume grows, with Automate reaching $1,290 a month. That is worth modeling before you commit, because the number you see on day one is not the number you pay at scale.

MixedMetrics

Built for the third job specifically. Read-only connectors pull GA4, Google Ads, Meta, TikTok, Search Console, Shopify, Stripe and Klaviyo or HubSpot into one board that computes blended ROAS, blended CAC, MER and LTV:CAC daily, at $79 a month flat with no per-source metering. Being honest about the gaps: it is attribution-lite rather than multi-touch attribution or media mix modeling, there is no white label client portal, and there are no Amazon Ads, Microsoft Ads or LinkedIn Ads connectors yet. If any of those is a hard requirement, one of the tools above will serve you better.

How much do GA4 reporting tools cost?

Entry pricing runs from free to roughly EUR 280 a month, but the sticker price is rarely what you pay. What actually drives cost is the metering model. Tools that meter data sources punish the brand running eight ad accounts. Tools that meter clients punish the agency. Tools that meter dashboards punish the team that likes granular views. Before comparing headline numbers, write down your real counts: ad accounts, destinations, users, clients, dashboards. Then price each tool against those counts. Our agency reporting software comparison works this through at 10, 25 and 50 clients, where the per client spread is wide enough to change the decision.

Can you use Looker Studio for GA4 reporting?

Yes, and for a single-channel business it is often the right answer. The honest test is whether anyone on your team will still be maintaining the report in six months. Free tools have no renewal conversation, so nobody notices when the report quietly stops being trusted. If your dashboard has drifted into a monthly rebuild, the Looker Studio alternative comparison covers the trade-off in more detail.

Why do GA4 and Shopify revenue disagree?

This is the question that derails more ecommerce reporting projects than any other, and the answer is that both numbers are correct about different things. GA4 records a purchase event on the date your site fired it, attributed to the session that led there. Shopify and Stripe record money that settled, net of refunds, chargebacks and failed payments, including orders that never touched your website at all. Subscription renewals are the clearest case: revenue in Stripe, no website event whatsoever.

Consent banners, ad blockers and a tag that broke during a theme update all push GA4 lower still. A 5 to 20 percent gap is routine. The mistake is picking one number and declaring it the truth. Show both, label which is which, and reconcile deliberately rather than by accident. Once the dashboard is honest about what sold, the next decision is usually operational rather than analytical: knowing which SKUs are actually moving is what lets you forecast what to reorder before a bestseller runs out.

How long does GA4 keep data?

A standard GA4 property retains event data for either 2 or 14 months, and defaults to 14. Analytics 360 offers 2, 14, 26, 38 or 50 months, defaulting to 50, with XL properties capped at 2 months. This catches teams out every year: you sit down in Q4 to compare against the same quarter two years ago and the rows simply are not there. If long-range seasonality matters to your buying, either set up the BigQuery export early or choose a reporting tool that stores connected history for you.

How to choose in one pass

Answer three questions honestly and the shortlist collapses to one or two options.

  • Do you need spend and settled revenue on the same screen as GA4? If no, use Looker Studio and stop paying for anything.
  • Will a person own the maintenance every month? If no, buy a tool with managed connectors rather than a canvas you assemble.
  • What are you being metered on? Count your ad accounts, users, clients and destinations first, then price the shortlist against those counts rather than the marketing page.

If the answer to the first question is yes, that is the case for a Google Analytics dashboard that treats GA4 as one connector among several rather than the destination. To sanity check a single campaign before you change anything structural, the ROAS calculator gives you return on ad spend and the break-even ROAS you have to clear from three inputs, and the CPM calculator does the same for cost per impression, cost per click and CTR.
